Almost as old as the Synagogue is the Jewish cemetery, also called the Gan HaShalom, Garden of Peace. It was established in the 16th century, and is the resting place of the Paradesi Jews.
Located near the Paradesi Jewish Synagogue, it’s the only Jewish cemetery that is still standing and maintained. There is no trace of the other cemeteries that existed in the area.
Visitors are not allowed inside the cemetery, but one can get a good view of the tombs through the locked gates. Evidence in the cemetery shows renovation was done last in the year 1898. There are inscriptions on each tomb that mention the details of the deceased. The inscriptions are in English as well as in Hebrew, the language of the Jewish community.
